Get Moving

You’ve heard this tip time and time again, right?

“Get off that couch and go outside.”

“30 minutes of movement a day is all it takes.”

Well, as hard as it can sometimes be to get into the routine of exercising, it’s one of the easiest ways you can improve your health.

By consistently exercising throughout the week, you’re doing so much good to your body. Not only are you improving your cardiovascular health and reducing your risk of chronic diseases, but you’ll also FEEL better.

Regular exercise can:

1. Increases your energy levels

2. Help fight anxiety and depression

3. Lower feelings of stress

4. Improve your brain health

5. Help reduce pain down the line

There are SO MANY ways that you can squeeze in exercise throughout the week.

Whether you join a nearby fitness class or hop on Youtube and watch one of the thousands of free online workout videos, there are many options available to you.

How will you start incorporating more exercise into your daily life?

Clean Up That Diet

This is probably the tip that takes THE MOST willpower. However, getting rid of bad things in your diet is still doable.

About 15 years ago, if you would have told me that I would one day stop drinking soft drinks, I would not have believed you.

Fast forward to today, and it’s been almost two decades since I’ve drunk a Sprite or Dr. Pepper.

Once you start weaning yourself off one bad food/beverage, it becomes easier for you to eliminate other less-than-ideal things from your diet.

I’d recommend trying to replace a bad food item with a healthy item.

For instance, I replaced my soft drinks with lemon water. Although it’s not the same taste by any means, your brain will make the swap eventually.

Another way that I’ve cleaned up my diet was by doing a light detox every few months for about three days or so. It’s helped restore my digestive system, I feel lighter, and I now have more energy.

Here’s a link to the detox water that I make.

Use Natural Skincare Products

Your skin is the largest organ in your body, so switching to natural products can do you a world of good.

Many products that we use are full of parabens and other harmful ingredients that can leave our skin dry, dull, and cause damage in the long run.

Doing simple things like swapping out those Bath & Body Works lotions for Vitamin E or avocado oil can do wonders for your skin.

Also, you can try using natural soaps to wash your face and body.

These are some of my favorite, clean products to use. Shop yours below!

Additionally, if you want to find out how clean your skincare ingredients are, download the Think Dirty app and type in the products you’re using.

You’ll be surprised at how many “clean” brands aren’t good for your skin at all.

Visit Your Local Chiro

Most people only think of going to the chiropractor after they’ve been in a car accident or if they’re in an excruciating amount of pain.

I first visited the chiro after a car wreck years ago, however, I didn’t enjoy it because it hurt.

What I didn’t know was that you could also benefit from seeing your chiro if you’re PAINFREE.

I’ve recently learned about the benefits of regular chiropractic adjustments and was blown away by all of the amazing effects they can have on your body.

Some of these benefits can include:

– Increase in energy

– Improved digestion

– Relief from any persistent pain

– Improved blood circulation

– Reduction of headaches/migraines

– Improved joint mobility

– Strengthened immune system

– Reduction of stress

Now I see a chiropractor every week for general wellness. Although I had no pain when I went in, some areas still needed to be adjusted.

I can feel the difference in my body now. I’m more flexible and not as tight from my workouts, my energy has increased, and overall, I feel “healthier.

I go to the Joint Chiropractic, and I love it.

It’s a franchise, so there are locations all across the United States! The monthly membership is super affordable, and you can go in a few times a month at a discounted rate.

You can also visit any location, not just the one where you initially joined.

*** I’m not affiliated with this company in any way, but I highly recommend them. The doctors I see are great, and I’m usually in and out within 10 minutes.

Chiro care is an excellent way to improve your health.

Become One With Yourself

Ok, now everyone sit in a cross-legged position and close your eyes.

I’m just kidding.

Well, not really.

Ahh, the wonderful world of mediation. If I had a dollar for every time I recommended meditation to someone, I’d be a rich woman.

With that being said, I can’t stress enough how meditation will help you improve your health

– If you’re always stressed out, you should meditate.

– Want to reduce anxiety attacks? Try meditating.

– If you need to lower your blood pressure, add meditation to your routine.

I could keep going on, but I think you get the picture.

Meditation is such a life-changing practice.

Even if you’re a naturally calm person with not a lot of stress, doubt, or worry, you could still benefit from meditation.

It’s a time of uninterrupted, focused, and intentional breathing that will leave you feeling like you’re on top of the world.

Adding regular meditations to your weekly routine would be so great for your health.

Fix Strained Relationships

Sometimes people we love hurt us the most, and sometimes it can be the other way around.

When we’re angry, hurt, or frustrated, we can say things that we don’t mean or do things we regret

If you have any strained relationships, be it family or friends, you could improve your health by taking steps to make amends.

Did you know that healthy relationships can actually improve your immune system and your quality of life?

If you have a relationship that’s worth saving, I recommend doing it. You’ll feel a lot better.

Unplug

In this fast-moving world of video and social media, it’s easy to get sucked in.

How many times have you aimlessly scrolled through your phone, only to push a task off until another day because you no longer feel like doing it (like that workout you had to do)?

Not only is social media distracting, but it can sometimes leave you feeling drained and self-conscious.

Over the years, I’ve noticed that a lot of people are “comparison culprits.”

They compare their lives to the influencers they see on social media and start to doubt their life choices or feel they aren’t good enough because they don’t have that fancy new car or beautiful penthouse.

Unplugging from social media for a few days (or sometimes, in my case, a few weeks) can do SO MUCH GOOD for your health, productivity, and self-esteem

You’re not constantly checking in on the lives of others, leaving you with more time to focus on your own life and shape it how you want.

How often are you unplugging for your health?

Find a Good Counselor

Never feel ashamed for needing a counselor. We all go through things in life, and we all get through it the best we can.

Having a counselor to talk to can improve your health because you’ll have someone to listen to your problems, desires, and grievances (without judgment), and they can offer you solutions to improve your situation.

Whether you’re depressed, anxious, feeling lost, etc., a counselor may be a good fit for you.

Sometimes all we need is someone to talk to.

Get Rid of That Soul-Sucking Job

This is a BIG ONE when it comes to health declines. Nothing is worse than waking up every morning and going to a job you hate.

Maybe it’s your boss. Or your colleagues. Or perhaps you aren’t getting paid what you’re worth.

Whatever the reason is, know that it’s not worth sacrificing your health

I’ve stayed at not-so-great jobs WAY longer than I should have, and my health took a massive hit due to it.

I know it’s not always easy to go out and find a new job, but do all you can to find a job that you like and one that affords you a comfortable life.

Cut Out Bad Habits

You can drastically improve your health by getting rid of bad habits.

Are you a cigarette smoker? Do you sometimes consume way too much alcohol? Or maybe you’re a chronic procrastinator?

Whatever you consider a bad habit in your life, you have the power to change it.

Start by making small changes in your routine, and little by little, get rid of the bad habit altogether.

A bad habit that I had to cut out of my life was how I dealt with stress. In the past, sometimes I would get so stressed out from work and my personal life that I couldn’t function, and my body would shut down.

Characters from Bad Boys 2 movie trying to remain calm

My brain would say, “Go!” but my body didn’t get the memo.

As a result, I would have to lie down or sit (sometimes for an hour or more) until I was no longer stressed.

The way I dealt with stress was extremely ineffective and often messed up my schedule (and my mood) for the day, so I knew I had to find better options to work through it.

Cut out any bad habits that you may have, and you’ll be amazed at how enhanced your quality of life will be.

Get Your Beauty Sleep

Getting adequate sleep is probably one of the best ways that you can improve your health.

The average adult needs between 7-9 hours of sleep each night so their body can restore itself.

I know if you have a family, a job, or other priorities, it can sometimes be hard to get all the sleep you need, but try to find little ways each day where you can squeeze it in.

If you’re able to, try taking a 30-minute nap during the day. Or maybe you can hire a babysitter for a few hours each week so that you can catch up on your sleep.

Get creative with your schedule and use all the resources available to you.

“But what if I don’t have any of those things holding me back from getting enough sleep each night? What if I don’t sleep well at night, so I always wake up tired?”

Hi, I’m Taryn, and we have the SAME problem (virtual handshake).

anime character who can't fall asleep in bed

I’m someone who has no issue FALLING asleep, but I have trouble STAYING asleep. I often wake up after midnight, and then I’m up for hours.

Next thing you know, my alarm clock goes off, and I’m now a zombie for the rest of the day.

If you can relate to not getting the right amount of sleep due to insomnia, poor sleep patterns, etc., here are a few tips that may help you out.

1. Limit electronics at least an hour before you go to bed

2. Drink a cup of Sleepytime tea about 30 minutes before bedtime

3. Pop a couple of melatonin gummies 30 minutes to an hour before you plan to sleep

4. Try to go to sleep around the same time each night to get your body used to a routine

5. Listen to calming music to help you drift off

6. Try reading a book or do some journaling before turning in

These tips have helped improve my sleep, and they could do the same for you. However, if your sleep quality hasn’t improved in a couple of weeks, maybe schedule an appointment with your doctor to rule out any underlying issues.

Laugh More

Sometimes we take life too seriously. And sometimes we can forget to laugh and enjoy ourselves when we have a lot going on.

Laughing is SO needed. It helps you relieve stress, and it boosts your energy.

If you’re overdue for a good laugh, turn on a funny movie or call a friend and reminisce about that embarrassing thing you did ten years ago (Come on, we all have a story like that).

Try not to get so caught up in all the shortcomings that life can have. Laugh every day. And laugh until your abs hurt. It’s sooo good for your health!

Step into the (Blue) Light

You’re probably reading this blog post on your phone or your computer. If we stop and think about it, we’re looking at screens for most of the day.

Do you ever get those little headaches after being on your computer all day? Or do your eyes sometimes feel heavy and exhausted by the time you clock out from your online job?

Yeah, same.

Well, here’s what you need to do…

Invest in a pair of blue light glasses!

I discovered blue light glasses a few years ago (Yes, I live under a rock), and my life has never been the same.

Since I work from home, 80% of my life involves me being on the computer or using my iPhone, and my goodness, my eyes would be TIRED by the end of the day.

I don’t have that problem anymore now that I use blue light glasses. Whoever invented them needs a Nobel Prize.

If you don’t have a pair yet, grab some today! Your eye health is so essential.
